  • THE ROLE
  • AvantStay operates a growing portfolio of vacation homes, hotels, and multi-unit
  • properties across the United States. Reliable internet, Wi-Fi, smart locks,
  • access control, connected devices, and secure employee systems are critical to
  • how we operate.
  • We’re looking for a hands-on technical leader to own this environment across two
  • areas: property technology and corporate IT. On the property side, you’ll own
  • the technical standards and troubleshooting for networking, Wi-Fi, locks,
  • gateways, and other connected systems. On the corporate side, you’ll own
  • identity, access, core IT systems, security escalations, and automation.
  • You’ll also manage 1–2 junior IT team members who handle routine support and
  • administration. We want someone who solves the difficult problems, builds
  • repeatable systems, and uses automation and AI to reduce manual work as
  • AvantStay grows.
  • WHAT YOU’LL OWN
  • PROPERTY NETWORKS & IOT
  • • Own network and Wi-Fi standards across vacation homes, hotels, and multi-unit
  • properties.
  • • Design, review, and troubleshoot LAN/WAN and wireless environments, including
  • switches, access points, routers, firewalls, VLANs, DHCP/DNS, PoE, and related
  • infrastructure.
  • • Work directly with ISPs, managed-network providers, low-voltage vendors, and
  • local technicians to resolve outages, performance issues, and recurring
  • failures.
  • • Own the reliability of connected property systems, including smart locks,
  • electronic access control, gateways, thermostats, sensors, and other IoT
  • devices.
  • • Diagnose issues across the full stack: device, gateway, local network,
  • internet connection, vendor cloud, API, and AvantStay systems.
  • • Build monitoring and diagnostics that improve visibility into the health of
  • networks and critical devices.
  • • Evaluate new hardware and vendors, and partner with Product and Engineering
  • where property technology connects to internal systems, APIs, and automation.
  • NEW PROPERTY & MULTI-UNIT DEPLOYMENTS
  • • Serve as the technical partner for new hotels and multi-unit launches.
  • • Review floor plans, network diagrams, ISP plans, low-voltage designs, and
  • access-control architecture.
  • • Review vendor proposals, identify gaps before opening, and validate that
  • installations meet AvantStay requirements.
  • • Create repeatable technical standards, deployment checklists, and
  • documentation for different property types.
  • You won’t be expected to physically install cabling or hardware across our
  • properties. Local operators and third-party vendors will provide hands-on
  • support. Your role is to know what needs to be built, determine whether it has
  • been built correctly, and own the technical path to resolution when it is not
  • working.
  • CORPORATE IT, SECURITY & AUTOMATION
  • • Own core administration across Google Workspace, Okta, SSO/MFA, identity and
  • access management, SaaS access, endpoints, groups, permissions, and licenses.
  • • Establish secure, scalable employee onboarding and offboarding workflows, with
  • routine execution delegated to junior team members where appropriate.
  • • Investigate common security issues such as phishing, suspicious logins,
  • potentially compromised accounts, and abnormal authentication activity.
  • • Support authorized Legal or HR requests involving account preservation, Google
  • Workspace retention, legal holds, searches, exports, or related data pulls.
  • • Use APIs, scripting, workflow automation, and AI to eliminate repetitive IT
  • administration.
  • • Build role-based provisioning, automated access reviews, self-service
  • workflows, and exception monitoring where useful.
  • • Use modern AI tools to accelerate troubleshooting, documentation, support
  • triage, and operational workflows while maintaining appropriate security and
  • approval controls.
  • TEAM LEADERSHIP
  • • Manage and develop 1–2 junior IT team members responsible for routine support
  • and administration.
  • • Create clear responsibilities, escalation paths, playbooks, and service
  • expectations.
  • • Delegate repeatable work while remaining the technical escalation point for
  • complex issues.
  • • Identify which work should be automated, delegated, outsourced, or escalated.
  • • Keep technical documentation current and build an operating model that can
  • scale without IT headcount growing linearly.
  • WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
  • REQUIRED
  • • 6+ years of experience across network engineering, infrastructure engineering,
  • systems engineering, IT engineering, managed services, property technology, or a
  • closely related environment.
  • • Strong networking fundamentals, including switching, routing, VLANs, DHCP,
  • DNS, NAT, firewalls, PoE, and Wi-Fi.
  • • Experience designing or supporting networks across multiple physical locations
  • and diagnosing wireless coverage, interference, connectivity, and performance
  • issues.
  • • Experience administering modern cloud-based corporate IT environments,
  • including identity and access management, SSO, MFA, and SaaS administration.
  • • Demonstrated ability to automate technical or administrative workflows using
  • scripting, APIs, or automation platforms.
  • • Strong practical proficiency with modern AI tools and the ability to apply
  • them to real operational workflows.
  • • Strong troubleshooting instincts and the ability to solve problems that cross
  • multiple vendors, systems, and technologies.
  • • Experience coordinating external vendors, ISPs, installers, or service
  • providers.
  • • Experience managing, mentoring, or serving as the technical lead for junior
  • team members.
  • • Excellent written and spoken English, strong documentation skills, and the
  • ability to communicate clearly with non-technical operators and employees.
  • • Ability to overlap substantially with U.S. business hours.
  • STRONGLY PREFERRED
  • • Experience in hotels, multifamily, managed Wi-Fi, smart buildings, hospitality
  • technology, or another distributed physical environment.
  • • Experience with platforms such as Meraki, Ubiquiti, Aruba, Ruckus, Cisco, or
  • similar.
  • • Experience with smart locks, electronic access control, IoT gateways, or
  • low-voltage infrastructure.
  • • Experience with Google Workspace, Okta, MDM, Google Vault, retention/legal
  • holds, or eDiscovery workflows.
  • • Experience with Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, PowerShell, REST APIs, OAuth,
  • webhooks, workflow automation, or AI coding tools.
  • Specific vendor experience matters less to us than your ability to understand
  • unfamiliar systems, diagnose problems methodically, and take ownership through
  • resolution.
  • WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

Within your first year, we expect you to

  • • Establish clear network and property-technology standards across AvantStay’s
  • portfolio.
  • • Create a repeatable technical deployment process for new hotels and multi-unit
  • properties.
  • • Improve visibility into network, lock, and connected-device health and reduce
  • recurring failures through better architecture and monitoring.
  • • Improve technical accountability across ISPs, installers, and technology
  • vendors.
  • • Make employee onboarding and offboarding substantially more automated and
  • reliable.
  • • Reduce manual IT administration through APIs, automation, and AI.
  • • Strengthen identity, access-management, and day-to-day security processes.
  • • Build an effective junior support team with clear escalation paths and strong
  • documentation.
  • This is not a traditional helpdesk role, and it is not a pure
  • network-engineering role. We’re looking for a technical generalist with real
  • depth who can move between physical infrastructure, connected devices, cloud
  • systems, identity, automation, and operations—and who takes ownership when the
  • answer is not obvious.
