  • Overview
  • Harbor is seeking a hard-working and experienced Post Technology Engineer for CG and
  • VFX whose expertise is focused on post-production technology and advanced VFX pipeline workflows.
  • Based in our LA office and working with an international technology team, this role provides senior technical leadership supporting VFX and CG production infrastructure, artist workflows, and engineering operations. The Senior Engineer is responsible for maintaining high-performance systems, coordinating pipeline tools and infrastructure, and ensuring reliable technology operations within a fast-paced, client-facing post-production environment.
  • The ideal candidate is highly organized, technically advanced, and capable of leading complex engineering initiatives while mentoring technical staff and supporting critical artist sessions.
  • Responsibilities
  • Lead the software and hardware support team assisting artists using VFX and finishing software including Autodesk Flame, Maya, Nuke, Avid, and Adobe Creative Cloud applications and associated plug-ins
  • Manage and help evolve a streamlined VFX pipeline using tools such as ShotGrid, Visional, or similar production tracking systems
  • Oversee management of media transfers and delivery portals using Signiant Media Shuttle, MASV, Aspera, and related accelerated transfer platforms
  • Oversee daily configuration, monitoring, and maintenance of VFX production
  • workstations and studio environments to ensure optimal performance
  • Maintain strong relationships with third-party vendors to update internal technical standards and operational procedures
  • Manage calibration of color-critical video displays and audio monitoring systems in accordance with internal and industry standards
  • Provide advanced solving support for software, hardware, and workflow-
  • related issues affecting artists and production teams
  • Support remote VFX artists using HP Anywhere/PCoIP and related remote desktop
  • technologies
  • Solve video, audio, and network switching and routing infrastructure throughout the facility
  • Support and optimize storage infrastructure including SAN, NAS, and DAS deployments
  • Coordinate with the ReSources network team to support internal and external network infrastructure
  • Build, update, and patch production workstations, license servers, and render farms across Linux, Windows, and MacOS platforms
  • Manage setup and support of remote streaming and review sessions using Colorfront Streaming Server, Clearview Flex, and related platforms
  • Coordinate installation, testing, operation, maintenance, and repair of facilities,
  • equipment, and software systems
  • Collaborate with global engineering teams to ensure consistent execution of technical standards and support procedures across all HARBOR locations
  • Source equipment and materials from vendors to support engineering initiatives
  • Create and maintain comprehensive user documentation and procedures for the engineering team
  • Perform additional departmental duties as assigned
  • Qualifications
  • 5–7 years of experience in a post-production engineering or media technology environment
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Advanced working knowledge of Autodesk Flame, Maya, Nuke, Avid Media Composer, Nexis Storage, Adobe Premiere Pro, and VFX pipeline tools such as ShotGrid or Visional
  • Strong understanding of network protocols, routing, and switching infrastructure
  • Extensive knowledge of Linux, MacOS, and Windows operating systems across desktop, server, and virtual environments
  • Experience supporting remote workflow and streaming platforms including HP
  • Anywhere/PCoIP, Jump Desktop, Colorfront Streaming Server, Streambox, Clearview Flex, and Zoom
  • Programming or scripting experience in Python, Perl, Bash, Java, or similar languages
  • Strong understanding of video signal standards and related media infrastructure
  • Experience supporting SAN and NAS environments and file sharing protocols including NFS, SMB/CIFS, AFP, and secure digital delivery systems
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience supporting large-scale render farms or high-performance computing
  • environments
  • Experience designing or optimizing VFX pipeline infrastructure
  • Experience supporting high-profile VFX production environments
  • Experience collaborating across multi-site or global post-production environments
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times

  • Compensation Range: USD $35.17 - USD $54.11/Hourly. This is the pay range the Company believes it will pay for this position at the time of this posting. Consistent with applicable law, compensation will be determined based on the skills, qualifications, and experience of the applicant along with the requirements of the position, and the Company reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time. Temporary roles may be eligible to participate in our freelancer/temporary employee medical plan through a third-party benefits administration system once certain criteria have been met. For regular roles, the Company will offer medical coverage, dental, vision, disability, 401k, and paid time off.
